Should coding be taught along with math in school?

I see a strong case for learning to code. I believe softwaRe (coding) is the 4th "R.". It's a natural combination to engage, apply and integrate math with coding. Check out http://CodeREVkids.com.

In 1969 I had the opportunity to study Algebra at a progressive college prep high school where the teacher incorporated programming in the BASIC language integrated with the math curriculum.

I designed and programmed games and challenged classmates to try and beat them, computer based tutoring programs to help classmates learn a foreign language (and a harbinger of my road to a lucrative and satisfying ed-tech career), programs to list prime numbers and other applications. Combining algebra, coding, logic and other disciplines I'm sure helped me develop better problem solving skills. It also directly provided me with a valuable skill-set I used later professionally.

I've heard and agree that teaching something helps not only your student but it helps you to learn things more thoroughly. So a coder who "Teaches a computer how to teach” will no doubt help the Coder learn the subject even better.

Do you see a place for Softwa(R)e as the Fourth R?"
